Just because you’ve created a Web site doesn’t mean that people will automatically know about it and see it pop up on their Google search. That would be nice, but you need to create a lot of backlinks and relevant info on your Web site, and then wait for Google to crawl your Web site before that will happen. In the meantime, there are some ways you can drive traffic to your Web site online and off. You need to do online and offline marketing for your Web site at the same time.
Here are some suggestions for each.
Online Marketing Ideas
This may sound silly, but mention your Web site often in the text of your Web site. Include a link to your home page on every page but the home page so that Google sees it more. Doing this also reminds people of where they are – yes that’s right, sometimes people forget what Web site they’re looking at!
Include a link to your Web site on all e-newsletters, emails and anything else you send to customers.
When you post a comment on a blog or discussion group, include a link to your Web site as part of the signature. Do the same for any forum postings.
Ask anyone you know in the business world to mention your Web site on their sites. Do a little link love and link to each others’ sites.
Send out online press releases, or post press releases on your Web site with the URL at the bottom in the contact information.
Write articles for free online and include a link to your Web site in the byline or in the About the Author part of the article.
Use pay-per-click marketing.
Buy banner advertising on other sites that are related to your Web site or industry.
Advertise in other company’s e-newsletters. Many complementary companies will be willing to do this in exchange for an ad in your e-newsletter.
Offline Marketing Ideas
Include your URL on all marketing materials and ads. From catalogs and booklet printing materials to postcards to billboards, include your Web site address and tell people to visit it.
Issue a press release to announce anything you’ve added on your Web site. You could offer a free e-course through your Web site or announce some kind of big online campaign through a press release.
Send out a postcard or brochure that includes a blurb about a discount coupon that can only be accessed through your Web site.
If you use a recorded message for after hours calls or for when you put people on hold, use that message to direct people to your Web site.
If you get interviewed by a radio station, TV station or newspaper, be sure to say “On my Web site, blahblah.com, I do this” instead of “On my Web site, I do this.” Be sure to include the name of your Web site in your quote so that it gets printed or recorded without being cut.
Give out free trinkets with your Web site address stamped on them. You can give out pens, pads of paper, mugs, mouse pads, key chains, whatever you want and add your URL to them, in addition to your logo.
